Saturday’s heat of over 115 degrees and in some places higher, has resulted in an unbelievable tragedy here in Victoria, Australia. The bush fires that took place over the weekend are still being fought, firefighters are being imported from all over Australia. Australia is deeming this their worst natural disaster ever, “Hell on Earth.” What a terrible image this brings to mind, unfortunately it is somewhat of a valid description. Fortunately, Geelong has not been directly affected. However, Saturday at the house we were actually able to smell the smoke through the air vent but the fires are about three hours west of here. They believe that the fires were sparked by some teenagers and are calling it “mass murder.” Brian Jones, one of Australia’s well-known newscasters and his wife were among some of the hundreds and counting victims. I have been impressed with how much people have unified here and are already helping out those who have been affected. In our staff meeting today at school, we were already brainstorming and planning fundraisers that could help. All this to say, prayers for these people would definitely help… There have also been some major floods in Queensland… Mother Nature seems to be uncontrollable here, I am currently in a fleece and it is probably in the upper 50’s outside! Wind is expected for tomorrow- which is a deadly combination with the fires… onto a lighter note…
I am praying for the people of Australia who are suffering because of the bush fires.
